Overview

Diagnostic nuclear imaging is used to evaluate diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and the hepatic-pancreatic-biliary system.

Hepatobiliary Iminodiacetic Acid (HIDA) Scan

Acute vs. Chronic Cholecystitis

PATIENT PREPARATION FOR HIDA SCAN

At least 4 hours Fasting required.

Please bring the following:
Previous exams (CT scan, MRI, Biopsy, Ultrasound) if any

Should not have had IV morphine or similar pain medication 4 hours prior to the study.

Corresponding amount of radioisotope will be forfeited in case of same day cancellation and/ or no show. The procedure is allowed to be rescheduled if the patient or relative informs the department two (2) days before the procedure.

RADIATION PRECAUTION: Please avoid close contact with pregnant women and children below 13 years of age for at least 24 hours.

Sulfur Colloid Liver Scan

Meckel’s Diverticulum Scan

Evaluation of thyroid malignancies.

PATIENT PREPARATION FOR MECKELS SCAN

At least 3 to 4 hours Fasting required.

Please bring the following:
Previous exams (CT scan, MRI, Biopsy, Ultrasound, Endoscopy, Colonoscopy) if any

Corresponding amount of radioisotope will be forfeited in case of same day cancellation and/ or no show. The procedure is allowed to be rescheduled if the patient or relative informs the department two (2) days before the procedure.
