Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was established with the vision of becoming an authority, leader and influence in reproductive health in Central Luzon.
The Department was accredited as service hospital by the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, Inc. (POGS) in 1993. This has set the foundation for putting up a formal residency training program in 1995 under the leadership of Dr. Concepcion G. Pantig.
In June 2003, Dr. Ma. Teresa S. Dychioco and Dr. Marcela Dianalyn Sazon-Carlos took over the reins of the department as Chairman and Training Officer. They opened the doors to other POGS-certified Obstetrician-Gynecologists in the community who were given decking privileges for the service patients co-managed with the resident-trainees and assigned into the various working committees. As the medical center enters the phase of expansion and modernization that year, the department of OB-GYN of Angeles University Foundation Medical Center faced a lot of challenges in improving the quality of residency training as the hospital was geared towards improving its facilities to be the best modern private hospital north of Manila.
In the succeeding years, our four (4) year residency training program has remained the only private residency training in Central Luzon with full accreditation from the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society for four years from January 1, 2010 up to December 31, 2013 under the chairmanship of Dr. Marcela Dianalyn Sazon-Carlos followed by Dr. Irene C. Manalastas and Dr. Eileen Co-Sy together with the support of Dr. Ma. Dolores A. Mercado as the Training Officer. Asst. Training Officer at that time was Dr. Marie Carmina S. Yturralde followed by Dr. Ivy Karen Romero, who assumed position in June 2013. The standards and requirements observed in the program are based on the guidelines set by the Philippine Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Angeles University Foundation Medical Center is the also the OB-GYN Training Unit of the Angeles University Foundation College of Medicine. As such, it has the responsibility to deliver quality patient care, but also to implement the clerkship, internship and residency training programs of the Angeles University Foundation College of Medicine. Therefore, each consultant and each house staff is enjoined to give all the assistance, guidance and inspiration that could be offered to the juniors of the department at their stage of training.
One of the goals of our department’s residency training program is to produce graduates who are competent and with good values, who will eventually become members of our prestigious society, the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society. We all have one shared mission that includes ground-breaking excellence in providing quality patient care and health to the community, research and education, with each part enforcing the whole.
